🗓 Key Deadlines to Know
April 30, 2025:Final day to file your personal income tax return and pay any balance owing to avoid penalties and interest.
June 16, 2025 (self-employed):If you're self-employed or your spouse/common-law partner is, your filing deadline is extended—but any balance owing is still due April 30.
⚠️ What Happens If You File Late?
Penalties: If you owe money and file after the deadline, the CRA charges 5% of your balance, plus 1% for each full month your return is late (up to 12 months). Repeat offenders can face even steeper penalties.
Interest: Starting May 1, 2025, the CRA will begin charging 8% interest (compounded daily) on unpaid taxes and penalties.
